Johannah Ruddy, M.Ed., is an IBS patient, educator, researcher, and author specializing in communication skills for patients and healthcare providers. As the Director of Patient Advocacy for Ardelyx Pharmaceuticals, she focuses on improving the patient-physician relationship in IBS and other Disorders of Gut-Brain Interactions. She co-authored the "Gut Feelings" book series and has written extensively on topics such as healthcare navigation and the impact of stigma and gender bias. A doctoral candidate in Health Science at Campbell University, her research centers on the effects of stigma on patient outcomes in chronic illnesses like IBS.
Andrea Shin, MD
Andrea Shin, MD, specializes in disorders of gut-brain interactions (DGBI) and gastrointestinal motility disorders at UCLA, focusing on conditions like IBS, functional diarrhea, chronic constipation, and anorectal disorders. She emphasizes individualized care that addresses the multidimensional aspects of these conditions. Dr. Shin earned her medical degree and completed her residency at Indiana University School of Medicine and a master’s in clinical and translational research at Mayo Clinic. She has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial boards of several leading medical journals.
